About these lesson plans
These 39 Form One Chemistry lesson plans follow the competence-based planning format used with the new TIE curriculum. They cover the concept of chemistry, matter and its changes, elements and compounds, the periodic table (first 20 elements), laboratory skills, and experiments on changes of state and separation of mixtures. Plans are written for either a 40-minute single period or an 80-minute double period.
What every lesson plan contains
Each plan uses the same seven-part header and a four-stage teaching structure:
- Header sections: class information (registered and present learners by gender), main competence, specific competence, main activity, specific activity, teaching and learning resources, and references.
- Teaching structure: Introduction, Competence Development, Design and Realisation, each with timing, teacher activities, learning activities and assessment criteria.
- Remarks: space for your reflection after the lesson.
- School details: a blank field for your school name, ready to complete.
