About these lesson plans
These 60 Form Two Biology lesson plans follow the competence-based format used with the new TIE curriculum. The first 30 cover nutrition in humans and ruminants, transport in plants and humans, and gaseous exchange and respiration in mammals and plants. The next 30 cover practical investigations: food tests, osmosis, transpiration, pulse rate, respiration experiments and report writing. Every plan is written for an 80-minute double period.
What every lesson plan contains
Each plan uses the same seven-part header and a four-stage teaching structure:
- Header sections: class information (registered and present learners by gender), main competence, specific competence, main activity, specific activity, teaching and learning resources, and references.
- Teaching structure: Introduction, Competence Development, Design and Realisation, each with timing, teacher activities, learning activities and assessment criteria.
- Remarks: space for your reflection after the lesson.
- School details: a blank field for your school name, ready to complete.
Topics covered
| Main activity | Lesson plans |
|---|---|
| Nutrition in humans and ruminants (nutrients, balanced diet, digestive system and processes) | 1–6 |
| Transport in flowering plants (vascular system, absorption, water movement, transpiration) | 7–12 |
| Transport in the human body (heart, blood vessels, blood, circulation, disorders) | 13–18 |
| Gaseous exchange and respiration in mammals (respiratory system, breathing, alveoli, aerobic and anaerobic respiration) | 19–24 |
| Gaseous exchange in plants (stomata, lenticels, pneumatophores, comparison with animals) | 25–30 |
| Food nutrient tests: introduction and reducing sugars | 31–32 |
| Effect of exercise on pulse rate; demonstration of anaerobic respiration | 33–34 |
| Food tests: starch, reducing and non-reducing sugars, proteins, lipids, comparative analysis | 35–40 |
| Osmosis, capillarity and transpiration experiments | 41–45 |
| Pulse rate experiments (locating, resting rate, recovery, factors) | 46–50 |
| Aerobic and anaerobic respiration investigations (germinating seeds, yeast, muscles) | 51–55 |
| Preparing and presenting investigation reports | 56–60 |

| Stage | Time (min) | Teacher's activities | Learning activities | Assessment criteria |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Introduction | 10 | Ask guiding questions: Why do we eat food? What happens if we lack some nutrients? | Respond with prior knowledge and examples. | Nutrition in humans and ruminants is described clearly. |
| Competence Development | 30 | Explain nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, water, fibre). Use charts or food models. | Observe, classify food samples, and note functions. | Nutrition in humans and ruminants is described clearly. |
| Design | 20 | Give tasks to identify nutrients in daily meals. | Prepare a food chart showing sources and functions. | Nutrition in humans and ruminants is described clearly. |
| Realisation | 20 | Prepare physical model, use interviews and short quizzes. | Present prepared model, attempt quizzes and participate in interview. | Nutrition in humans and ruminants is described clearly. |

Frequently asked questions
How many Biology lesson plans are included for Form Two?
The full set has 60 lesson plans. Each is written for an 80-minute double period.
Are these Biology lesson plans aligned to the TIE curriculum?
Yes. They use the competence-based format with main and specific competences, TIE (2024) references, a four-stage teaching structure and assessment criteria for each stage.
Do the plans include practical work?
Yes. Thirty plans are practicals: food tests (iodine, Benedict's, Biuret and emulsion), osmosis with potato strips and raisins, transpiration, pulse rate and exercise, aerobic and anaerobic respiration experiments, and writing an investigation report.
Can I preview a lesson plan before paying?
Yes. The sample lesson plan on this page shows the exact layout used in the full set. After payment you receive all lesson plans as a clean PDF.
Do I need to edit the lesson plans before using them?
Yes. Add your school name and class numbers, check the resources against what your school holds, and adjust the timings to your timetable.
