Mathematics Scheme of Work — Class Three (Std 3) 2026/2027

TIE / PMO-RALG aligned primary scheme, ready to download and personalise for your school term.

About this scheme

This Class Three (Standard 3 / Darasa la Tatu) Mathematics scheme of work follows the competence-based planning format set out by the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) for the 2026 primary curriculum. It is a starting point: add your school name and term dates, and adjust pacing for holidays and school events before submitting it to your head teacher or academic office.

What the scheme contains

Every row of the scheme carries the official column set used in the primary schemes: Main Competence (Umahiri mkuu), Specific Competence (Umahiri mahususi), Learning Activities (Shughuli za ujifunzaji), Specific Activities (Shughuli ndogondogo), Month (Mwezi), Week (Wiki), Periods (Vipindi), Reference (Rejea), Teaching and Learning Methods (Mbinu za ufundishaji), Teaching and Learning Resources (Zana za ufundishaji), Assessment Tools (Zana za upimaji) and Remarks (Maoni). The Remarks column records examination dates and short holiday breaks.

Competences covered

Further units continue across the academic year as prescribed in the TIE Standard Three Pupil’s Book.

Period allocation

Mathematics is planned at 6 periods per week for most competence blocks. This supports the practical, play-based and activity-oriented approach expected at primary level.

Teaching methods, resources and assessment

Methods include practice exercises, questions and answers, discussions, practical work and class presentation. Resources include digit cards (0–9), abacus, number tray, whole-number cards, counters, online programmes related to place value and sequences. Assessment combines quizzes, tests, questions and answers, project work, group discussions, exercises and practical tasks.
