Azimio la Kazi — Kemia, Kidato cha Pili. TIE-aligned, ready to download and personalise for your school year.
This Form Two Chemistry scheme of work follows the competency-based planning format set out by the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) for the new curriculum. It sequences the year from atomic structure through chemical bonding and reactions, then acids, bases and salts, the periodic table, and finally practical work with locally made indicators. It is a starting point: add your school name and term dates, and adjust pacing for holidays and school events before submitting it to your head of department.
Every row of the scheme is one planned teaching week and carries the same eleven columns: Main Competence, Specific Competence, Learning Activities, Specific Activities, Month, Week, Periods, Reference, Teaching and Learning Methods, Teaching and Learning Resources, Assessment Tools and Remarks. The Remarks column is used for examination dates and school breaks.
Chemistry is planned at three periods per teaching week for most topics, with lighter weeks of one or two periods where a topic closes or a break falls. Across the year the scheme runs to roughly 90 periods, spread over the three terms, with weeks left free for mid-term examinations, terminal and annual examinations, and school holidays. The extract below shows how periods are recorded for each week.
Methods are varied by topic: think-ink-pair-share and technology-based learning for atomic structure, group discussion and problem solving for formulae, inquiry-based learning and gallery work for nomenclature and acids, and experimentation and outdoor activity for reactions and indicators. Resources include wall charts, models, the modern periodic table, simulations and videos, locally available materials and standard laboratory apparatus. Assessment combines quizzes, questions and answers, project work, presentations, group discussion, flash cards and random assessment tests.
Below is a short extract in the official column format. The full download follows the same layout week by week across the year, including mid-term and terminal examinations and school holidays.
