This Form Two Kiswahili scheme of work follows the competency-based planning format set out by the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and is written in Kiswahili. It covers Kiswahili grammar, listening and reading, and communicating through speech and writing, including essays and minutes. It is a starting point: add your school name and term dates, and adjust pacing for holidays and school events before submitting it to your head of department.
Every row of the scheme is one planned teaching week and carries the same eleven columns: Main Competence, Specific Competence, Learning Activities, Specific Activities, Month, Week, Periods, Reference, Teaching and Learning Methods, Teaching and Learning Resources, Assessment Tools and Remarks. The Remarks column is used for examination dates and school breaks.
Kiswahili is planned at four periods per teaching week. Across the year the scheme runs to roughly 104 periods, with weeks left free for mid-term, terminal and national examinations and school breaks.
Methods include writing and presenting, study visits, role play, narration, discussion, text analysis and think-ink-pair-share. Resources include word and sentence charts, grammar texts, recorded videos and audio of conversations, and texts and charts on writing structures. Assessment combines tests, project work, questions and answers, drawings and group work. The sample below keeps the original Kiswahili wording.
